Art Is The Way with Hervé Tullet

April 10, 2018

This spring, PS84 students grades 1-5 are working on a unique, school-wide art project.

The best-selling children’s author Hervé Tullet has created sound-paint interactive workshops that invite children and adults alike to create large-scale murals together. Participants react with their brushes to what they hear, transforming their own expression into a collective and collaborative work.

Second Grade Poetry Slam

March 29, 2018

Parents and teachers crowded around confident second graders as they read their meaningful and incisive poetry. Students worked very hard and put a lot of effort into writing their poems. This would be a memorable moment,  as they will probably have to face a larger crowd as they get older. It was a good time to practice their skills, and for the first time, face a large crowd of adults. As parents listened to their children, they finally understood all of the work that the students put into their poetry.

Battle of The Books

March 23, 2018

The Battle of the Books is a reading challenge designed to engage students in grades 3-5 and foster a love of reading.  Students are invited to sign up several months before the event in order to receive and begin reading the book list for their intended grade level.  All students are expected to read all five books prior to the competition. Students are placed in groups consisting of third, fourth, and fifth graders.  They meet with their groups several weeks prior to the competition to select their team color and come up with their team name, as well as discuss the books they have read in order to prepare for the competition.
