The countdown until the first day of school has begun! We are looking forward to a strong start to your child's academic career. For some of you, this well anticipated day has been in the works for years. Researching schools, going on tours, and filling out applications have all been a part-time job. I have outlined a few more tasks for you before the school year begins, please read below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to write.
1) Begin setting routines for your children. In the article below, you will find information about the importance of starting school routines from now.
2) Download the following apps:
PS 84 The Lillian Weber App
Instagram (lillyweb84, 84assistantprincipal)
Shoparoo - Please click on this link https://app.shoparoo.com/r/stow9286
3)Stay Positive - Reinforce your child's confidence by explaining how great they are going to be at school! Explain that they are going to have a lot of fun learning new things and meeting new friends.
4)Dressing Students Appropriately - We all love the latest fashion, but please stay away from hard to buckle/unbuckle belts. Practice buttoning pants and shorts. Also, please be aware of shoes that quickly come untied. Please note that all shoes must cover your child's toes!
5)Relax - Please know that anxiety is transferable to our children. If you have separation anxiety, your child is more likely to feel the same.
6) Prepare for your opening day! Kindergarten parents and their children will enter through the middle doors on 92nd street beginning at 7:50 AM. Upon entering the school, you will be guided to a cafeteria table. This table is where your child will eat breakfast and lunch every morning and afternoon. Breakfast will be available until 8:10. Teachers will arrive at the cafeteria at 8:30. This is 10min later than usual. These extra ten minutes are a good time for you to take your final pictures and get your last hugs and kisses. Once teachers arrive, your child will line-up and make their way to the classroom. You are expected to remain in the cafeteria until all classes have exited (parents will not be allowed to follow their child into the hallway).
Pre-K parents will be on a different schedule. You will enter through the 91st side near Central Park West at the time stated on your Pre-K Class Letter. If you have not received a letter, please contact the PS 84 next week.
7) In The Works - Within the next few days, you will be receiving a digital ID card (Smart Phone ID). You will need this to gain access into the building during morning arrival and afternoon pick-up. As you enter the building every morning and afternoon, your ID will be scanned. If for some reason you do not have your digital ID with you on a given day, you will need to show your ID and sign-in at the front desk. Those of you who will be having a sitter pick-up your child will receive follow-up instructions.
I am excited about this upcoming school year!!! Our teachers have been preparing all summer long and are eager to meet you and your children. We are happy to welcome you into the PS 84 family! We ROAR!!
