Dear PS 84 Family,
It's so wonderful to see our family back together again for the 2018-2019 school year! There are so many plans in place to make learning and growing at PS 84 even more wonderful!
Blooms of Multiculturalism abound and making sure we all learn from one another and appreciate our diversity is our top priority. This year, our school community will participate in even more initiatives and partnerships to support our vision of CONNECTIVITY to academics, the arts, sciences, athletics, and the environment.
Beginning with fostering strong social-emotional learning foundations, PS 84 will be utilizing the rethinkEd curriculum to go along with our RULER program we started last year. The goal is for students to recognize and identify their emotions daily with the RULER emotion meter. Identifying what emotional state one is in enables us to regulate ourselves. rethinkEd will provide students with practical examples and build their sense of positive inter-personal connections.
With major fundraising, our amazing PTA has given us the means to acquire E3Sports. During recess, this program's holistic approach focuses students with a brief daily routine warm-up. Students also participate in a “free play” model that aims at decreasing bullying and playground injuries. And when our students need to stay indoors on rainy days, E3 organizes fun games and activities so that our children enjoy and stay safe.
Windows to the World (WttW) is our school-wide initiative that brings together all arts-based programs and opportunities: performing arts, music, visual arts, cinema and more.
Students will be part of learning experiences, so that they gain a better understanding and appreciation of cultures, world history, and geography through the arts.
The 3 pillars of WttW :
Weekly art and music curriculum for all students and faculty
Hands-on enrichment programs designed for each grade (parent-led or with professional community partners)
Engaging PS84 families in the arts through special cultural events and presentations of student work
Partnerships with local organizations and museums make us thrive! We are so fortunate and excited to continue our partnerships with the Frick Collection, the NY Historical Society, the Anne Fontaine Foundation, and the American Folk Art Museum for the One, Two, Tree Project for Kindergarten and First Grade!
Our school also won grant funding to enable residencies in film, dance, and theater with organizations such as Magic Box, City Center, Neighborhood Music and Arts, and so many more! Working with our local partners provides our students with the experiential learning opportunities that connects them to the world we live in.
There are rainbows of happiness in learning and growing here at PS 84.
And, it all happens because of the joined efforts of dedicated parents, teachers, and staff.
We are truly a wonderful community!
