Dear PS 84 Lion Families,
I hope you all are having a fantastic end to the summer and are now are all rested, reenergized, and, like me, eager to begin the new school year! For families just joining our fantastic learning community, WELCOME! And, for our returning families, WELCOME BACK! I am looking forward to another year of working collaboratively together with positive energy and commitment to our school vision towards educational excellence with equity and access for all learners.
As administration and staff continue preparing for the new school year, all indicators are pointing to a renewed, promising, and fruitful academic year. Our dedicated and professional staff have already begun planning and preparing for the arrival of our students. New families are registering, resources and materials are being ordered, and our diligent office staff are updating student files. Our seemingly tireless, hardworking custodians have spent the entire summer cleaning the premises, and our dedicated PTA is working on welcoming new families, offering volunteer opportunities, and hosting more various fun events and programs. Indeed this is a happy and loving community dedicated to developing knowledgeable, compassionate, responsible, and open-minded young citizens of tomorrow.
Each year brings with it positive change and we now have a few new people on our team. We are delighted to welcome Jeanny Jorge (3K), Janet Sabillon (4K), Michelle Hart (2nd), and Rizvi Asif (OT). They each hold strong skill sets as well as a kind, sympathetic pedagogical approaches towards ensuring learning and supporting the emotional needs of all our children.
You may have seen some maintenance and construction work if you went past the school or used our outside play areas this summer. We are continuously striving to make sure our school blooms with the message of happiness, the love of learning, and equity for all. First, we repainted the front of our building, extending the Blooms of Multiculturalism. Secondly, the long-awaited completion of our schoolyard renovation is almost here. We look forward to using it in early September.
A great deal of time, effort, and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the school year. Teacher feedback, as well as student learning styles, are carefully considered; class rosters are carefully balanced with respect to academics and to ensure all
students will be able to thrive socially. Please know that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. As such, it is important to remember to support your child’s in re-entry to school. Parents’ positive approach and words of encouragement go a long way to help children learn how to make new friends (a necessary life-ling skill).
From the bottom of my heart, I say, thank you to all who are assisting with the start of the new school year. Your dedication towards ensuring that PS 84 remains a celebrated and successful school is inspiring. Once again, I eagerly await the mornings to greet our precious students and families at the doors of our beautiful school. It is a great pleasure and privilege to be the principal here at PS84, the Lillian Weber School of the Arts. Please do come visit and say, “Hi!”
Together, we will make this school year one of happiness in growth and achievement. We will ROAR!
With warmest regards,
Dr. Evelyn J. Lolis
