Covid-19 Protocols

Dear PS 84 Lion Families,

We wish you all a nice ending to your summer vacation! We are excited to return to school full-time, five days a week, on Monday, September 13, for grades K-5th Grade. For our youngest 3K & 4K students, we will be having a staggered beginning the first week of school.

Please visit our Back to School information page (Coming Soon), which has all of the necessary information for the start of the school year.

We wanted to keep our families informed about our ongoing response to the COVD-19 pandemic and our preparations for the upcoming school year. Our school has been keeping track of COVID-19 guidance changes from the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and the New York City Department of Education during the summer. We will continue to follow the DOH guidelines, as we did last year and in accordance with the Mayor's Office. We are completely certain that we will be back in-person on a full schedule this autumn, based on the most current guidance.

Vaccinations

As mandated by New York City, our staff will be vaccinated by the first day of school. We still do not know when students under 12 will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Face Coverings and Masks

All staff, students, and visitors must continue to wear face masks indoors and while riding the school buses. Students may remove face coverings to eat and drink and when they are outside. Regardless of vaccination status, wearing masks in school is New York City-mandated and obligation.

Along with wearing facial masks, the DOH guidelines include layered physical distancing strategies (3ft distancing), improvement of ventilation (one or more air purifiers and HEPA air conditioning filters), hand washing, and nightly disinfection of classrooms.

Covid-19 Testing

Surveillance testing will occur every other week at PS 84, with 10% of all consenting children being randomly tested (Pre-K and Kindergarten are excluded). To participate in the testing program in the 2021-2022 school year, students must submit a new COVID-19 testing consent form. For more information or to see the testing process, please click on the link: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/health-and-wellness/covid-information/covid-19-testing-for-students

Class & School Closures

In the invent that of a class or school closure, we will seamlessly revert to remote learning. Please work with our Parent Coordinator and Classroom Teachers to ensure that you and your child can login to all DOE applications. We are still awaiting guidance on individual student quarantines but expect to be updated soon.

Safety Town Hall Meeting

On the evening of September 7, 2021 PS 84 will be hosting a Safety Town Hall Meeting via Zoom. During the meeting we will introduce you to our Building Response Team, explain our safety protocols and update you on covid-19 school information. We look forward to seeing you in attendance.

Best regards,

Lester Acevedo
