Important Update March 16

March 16, 2020

Dear PS 84 Families,

On behalf of our school staff and myself, I would like to take a moment to connect with you during this time of uncertainty to convey our continued commitment to our students and families. Yesterday, the Governor and Mayor declared the closing of all public schools. https://www.schools.nyc.gov/alerts/nyc-public-schools-will-close-starting-monday-march-16-2020

The plan moving forward as delineated from our Chancellor is the following:

  • Beginning this week, the DOE will move towards a new remote learning model for all school days until Spring Recess.

  • Students will not report to school buildings for instruction during this time.

  • School buildings are projected to reopen to students following Spring Recess on Monday, April 20, 2020.

  • The Mayor and Chancellor have announced that Grab-and-Go meals will be available for pick-up at schools this week.

While it is difficult in the face of the current health crisis to maintain a sense of calm on a day to day basis, please know that as a school community, we are prepared to move forward with a comprehensive contingency plan for continued learning.

Please note, in last few weeks, our school has prepared online resources in preparation for the reality of school closings. We have organized several means of accessing learning content. Starting officially next week, and possibly even this week, teachers will be reaching out to you via a new web-based interactive school connection called Edmodo. Along with this direct platform for students to stay connected to their classroom teachers, we are providing a remote learning resource document (sent home last Friday afternoon and available on our website: 84web.org) to assist parents in accessing the NYC DOE Learn At Home resources. Our school’s Instructional Leadership Team also compiled a list of other Standards-based activity websites.

Lastly, as a united, well-functioning school community, it is imperative that lines of communication stay open. We ask that you make sure the school has your most updated and accurate contact information. If numbers or addresses have changed, please submit the new information as soon as possible to ccepeda@schools.nyc.gov..

Wishing you all safety and health,

Dr. Evelyn J. Lolis
