"Lost time is never found again." -Benjamin Frankli

Dear PS 84 Community,

Lateness for all grades has become a serious issue at school during morning arrivals.

In order to help mitigate this, the school has deemed it necessary to remind parents that children Pre –k through 5th Grade should begin arriving at school at 8:10 AM.

Arrival procedures will remain the same.

Upon entering our building, all Pre-K students must be brought directly to their classrooms.

Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students are to walk to the Cafeteria and wait at designated tables for their teacher to arrive at 8:20 AM.

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are to go to the Auditorium and wait at designated rows for their teachers until 8:20 AM.

Please note, the procedure for marking students late will change beginning Monday, December 10. All students arriving after 8:25 AM will be marked ‘Late’ by a school staff member positioned at the main entrance.

Frequent lateness has an adverse effect on a child’s academic success. Chronically late students miss important morning announcements, as well as critical instruction of daily classroom curriculum. Late students also cause an unfair distraction to their fellow classmates, interrupting ongoing lessons and classroom activities as they unpack and try to “catch-up” getting organized. This is true for all grades, as disruptions even within the Pre-K classrooms by late arrivals can have an adverse effect on fellow students as well.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in helping us give all our young learners the means to succeed. Getting an early start maintains a learning environment in which students are provided with every opportunity to flourish and be successful. Getting to school on time will make every day happy!

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Evelyn J. Lolis
